“Listen. I’m the baddest in the school, the baddest in the game. Excuse me, honey, but nobody’s in my lane.”

She is Nicki Minaj. Nicki Lewinsky. Nicki the Ninja. Nicki the Harajuku Barbie! She is the newest sensation in the female rap game. When it appeared to be no hope for female rappers, Minaj burst on the hip hop scene with a style that no other female possessed, earning immediate respect from hip hop fans. Admired for her metaphorical lyrics, versatile rap personalities and dynamic pitches in her voice, Minaj is sitting on a rap pedestal.

Nicki Manaj was born Onika Maraj on Dec. 8, 1984 in Southside Jamaica, Queens, N.Y. She graduated from Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music and Art and was discovered by Fendi, rapper and CEO of Dirty Money Entertainment. After showcasing her singing and rapping talent to the world through uploaded songs on Myspace, her lyrical madness was noticed by rapper Lil Wayne, CEO of Young Money Records. The songstress chose to sign a music contract with them on their rise to the top of the rap charts.

She is known as a mixtape smasher, a fierce rapper who speaks her mind, defying society by letting it place no limitations of her mind and speech. In 2007, she released her first mixtape, “Playtime is Over,” which gained her a wealth of publicity through her record “Can’t Stop, Won’t Stop,” featuring Lil Wayne. Next, she released her collaborated mixtape with Lil Wayne, “Sucka Free,” in 2008. During that same year, Minaj won Female Artist of the Year at the Underground Music Awards.

In 2009, Minaj released her most famous mixtape, “Beam Me Up Scotty,” which gained her the most support, publicity and rap credit. After releasing this mixtape, she has thus released another, has appeared on tour with her Young Money family and is planning to release her debut album in 2010.
