Going on their third year, FBLA continues to sell hot fresh cookies during every lunch without getting tired of it.
“The sales are pretty good. It just varies day to day,” Tricia Brown, sponsor, said. “Some days we sell out and some days we are left with cookies after lunch is over. It just depends on what the students want.”
These cookie sales started with Robin Pannell, a former teacher here, who got the idea at a national conference. FBLA sells cookies because it is a very easy way to raise the most money. They sell chocolate chip, chocolate with pink chips for breast cancer awareness and white chocolate macadamia nut.
“Chocolate chip,” Brown said, “is the best seller by far.”
With chocolate chip being the favorite, they make more chocolate chip cookies to sell.
“I know the students enjoy buying cookies because they buy them every day,” Caitlin Armistead, senior, said, “and they talk about how good they are!”
Before doing anything, Jameria Slaton says the person must complete their work.
After they finish, they have the cookie dough already formed in their freezer, so they have to prepare each tray. Each tray holds 12 cookies. They have to let the ovens warm and then they cook the cookies for 19 minutes. They do this cycle four times to accommodate all four lunches and they have fresh, warm cookies each lunch period. They can cook up to six trays at a time, but do not usually do so in order to not have cookies left over.
Slaton, Armistead, Marissa Morrow, Shandrika Rainwater, Ashleigh Faust and Miranda Bolden sell cookies for their first year. They all say they enjoy selling cookies.
“I think selling cookies is a great opportunity for FBLA,” Bolden said. “It has become our number one fundraiser, and we have really enjoyed selling cookies! I think it’s a great fundraiser.”
Not only do these girls sell cookies to support their club but they also have a good time and enjoy themselves in the process.
“I love to sell cookies. It really gives me something to do during class,” Morrow said. “I enjoy satisfying the students with the cookies they love. I enjoy everything I do, and I mostly enjoy selling the cookies to my peers.”
When being in business having a good attitude is a big part of people skills.
“I am very friendly when communicating with the customers,” Rainwater said. “I make jokes and things.”
Communicating with the customers is a main point when selling something. If a salesperson has a rude attitude when trying to sell something no one would want to buy anything from him or her. If they are friendly and communicate positively with the students, then they would most likely like to buy more from them.
“I expect,” Brown said, “to make the most money with the least hassle!”
