Pre-distribtution party increases the sale of yearbooks

Written by Sara Stephens, Reporter

Christiana Campbell and Sandy Vang, co-editors, got together and discussed the ending of their yearbook for 2009-2010. “We’re going to have a pre-distribution party,” Vang, senior, said. “It is going to be May 19.”
Being able to purchase yearbooks online has helped make the yearbook sales easier. “I think the online yearbook sale has helped eliminate some previous problems that we were having,” Campbell, sophomore, said. “Now I just hope that the pre-distribution party will help out with selling more yearbooks and possibly allow us to make a profit to go into funds for next year’s yearbook.”
The online yearbook sale has been closed for the rest of the school year. “The online yearbook sales was closed April 17,” J. D. Zuber, yearbook adviser, said. “We will not be selling any more books until May 19 at the pre-distribution party.”
People that go to the party can either purchase a book, or receive their book that they have already ordered. “The yearbook staff has only ordered 400 books this year,” Zuber said. “When they are all purchased, then they are all gone.”
The yearbook staff, however, has only sold half of the yearbooks. “The yearbook sales are low,” Campbell said. “We have only sold about 200 yearbooks this year. The student body really needs to support our yearbook by either buying a yearbook or purchasing a ticket to go to the pre-distribution party.” Those people that have already purchased a yearbook online can also pick their books up at the party as long as they buy a ticket. “The tickets for the pre-distribution party will be $2 and will be sold by the yearbook staff,” Zuber said. “You can purchase them up until May 12; the yearbook staff will be selling them during the day or you can purchase them during third block in room 510.”
The ticket doubles as a pass and there will not be any refunds for any reason. “The power of the ticket is, it gets you out of fourth block where you can come to the cafeteria, pick up a new or already ordered book,” Zuber said. “It also allows you a good opportunity to sign a few friends’ yearbooks.” The pre-distribution party is May 19, but the staff has been working toward a presentable yearbook since the beginning of 2009. “Things can always improve,” Campbell said. “There is always room to do better. There are some people that aren’t getting work done and I wish those people had more understanding of how important this is to some, but together we are pulling through.”
The yearbook staff is working on the spring portion of the yearbook now. “We aren’t the most organized class,” Vang said. “This year, we are actually getting our work done and I’m very confident that people are going to like the book.”
Every year, hours of hard work is required to produce the yearbook. “It doesn’t matter what year it is,” Zuber said, “a lot goes into the yearbook, behind the scenes.” At the pre-distribution party, seniors will be the first to be called from the office. “We decided to call the seniors up first,” Zuber said, “because it’s going to be their last year here and we wanted to give them a chance to see their senior class for the last time. Any other underclassmen that has purchased a ticket will be called approximately 30 minutes later, so it won’t be so crowded.”
After the pre-distribution party, if someone ordered a book, but did not buy a ticket to attend the party, those students will have to wait until May 20 during third block to pick it up. “Any left over books, after the party,” Zuber said, “will still cost $80 and will only be sold during third block in room 510.” With the distribution party, the yearbook staff is nearing completion of their work on the 2010 edition of the Hurricane Annual. “The pre-distribution of the yearbook,” Zuber said, “is the next to the last step of a 16 month journey.”
