Softball players love the game they play no matter what

Written by Ashley Rose, Reporter

Kelsie Merritt, freshman, has been playing softball since she was a little girl and her family plays, so she is used to it. She was raised around the sport and has enjoyed playing it ever since.
For players like Merritt, softball has been part of their lives for as long as they can remember.
“I enjoy playing softball with my friends and my family,” Merritt said. “My family helps me practice at home and my friends and coach help me at school.”
Like Merritt, Morgan Fambrough, sophomore was raised around the sport and has been playing it since she was four. “I love playing softball,” Fambrough said. “I have been playing it for a long time and I really enjoy it.”
Fambrough plans to play throughout her high school years and even after. Fambrough plays pitcher more than anything, but sometimes will alternate and play left field JV.
Fambrough gets along with most of the people on the team. “The only thing that made me want to play for so long is the sport itself,” Fambrough said. “I really enjoy it.”
Hannah Johnson, freshman, has been playing since she was four also and pretty much gets along with everybody. Johnson says softball is fun and enjoys playing it with her friends. She goes to every practice and game, and they practice from about 2:30–4:30 each day.
Johnson played soccer for one season and then quit because it interfered with her softball. “I plan to play throughout my high school years,” Johnson said, “but also when I get to college.”
Like Johnson, Macy Brignone, freshman, has also been playing since she was four. Brignone usually plays third base or right field. She used to pitch but did not like it, and eventually stopped. “My sister plays it and my mom is the coach for her school team,” Brignone said.“I am really good even though this is my first year playing at Monroe.”
Brignone enjoys everything about softball and loves the game. “I cannot see myself not playing it,” Brignone said. “I like winning, but when we lose it is frustrating, but it just shows the team that we need to practice more.”
Kiley Doster, junior, has been playing since she was little and just plays because she enjoys it. “I do not get along with some of the team members, but I try with the ones that I don’t,” Doster said. “It’s what I play; I’m used to playing it from when I was a little girl.”
