The Lady C Steppers have been stepping their way into the hearts of many in the past couple of years, but this year, they plan to step it up another notch.

The Step Team here intends to raise the bar when it comes to skill and dedication, which won’t be a difficult task according to Connie Carrell, the Lady C Steppers’ coach.

They really don’t need me here,” Carrell said. “They’re so dedicated!”

Carrell was chosen by the Lady C Steppers to coach the team this year. “They talked me into it,” she said.

The team consists of 24 members this year, including the team captains, Amethyst Bush and Shrondera (Chae) Young, senior.

“I’ve been on step team since I was in eighth grade,” Bush said, “but I’ve been stepping all my life.”

Young has been on the step team since ninth grade.

Both Young and Bush say that the team will focus on making themselves better and keeping their routines strong.

“There aren’t any changes as far as rigor,” Bush said. “We’re still moving at a fast pace and improving ourselves.”

The team will be performing at the boys basketball half-time shows.

“The step team plans to entertain the basketball half-time audience,” Carrell said, “and to represent the school on the competition level around the state. I am so proud of these girls and I know they’ll do great.”
